The Whispering Angel books anthology arrived at my door step today. On page 85 is a story by me. It’s only a page and a half, but it’s all mine. My first anthology contribution. The cover is beautiful and I can’t wait to read the other stories.
My story/essay is about my son in law while he was in Iraq. Here are few paragraphs:
As I continued to view the CD, I opened up files of the videos he had taken of the area. There were several sequences of moving views out of a chopper door, where all you could hear was the loud beating of the whirling rotor blades. Then there was a guided tour of his quarters, narrated by him.
The last videos took me by surprise and gripped my heart. They were videos of Jesse reading a story out of a children’s book for his daughter, Abby. He talked to her just as if she was there, reading all her favorite stories that he read to her at home – “Good Night Moon” and “Mrs. Spider’s Tea Party.” My eyes filled with tears as I thought about how he must have missed his little one. This was his way of keeping her memory of him fresh, and enabed him to feel as if he was parenting her, even from far away.
If you want to read the rest of the story and a bunch of other inspiring essays, you can order this Living Lessons book on this website:
I look forward to the day when the UPS man brings me a box of my own first novel. I’ll be sure to keep you posted. 🙂
