Ever wonder about our fascination with fall colors? Why are we drawn to the beauty of semi-translucent shades of orange, red and gold?
The leaves are dying, yet they show us their finest just before they fall.
What does that have to do with creativity?
As with so many things in our journey of life, we must die to our own imaginings, desires and pre-conceived notions of how things should look, sound or feel. There comes a time when our creative minds reach a low point – whether it’s hourly, daily, weekly or yearly. We run out of the spark or inspiration we need to finish the book, complete the painting, or compose that last phrase of song.
Just as the leaves must die and fall to bring new life later on, we might find our finest creation has left us lifeless.
But all is not lost! It’s just the process of creation and re-creation.
That’s when we rest and let our creative juices rejuvenate; or better yet, let the Great Creator fill us up with new ideas and visions. We go deeper into the soil of our talents and pull up the nourishment we need to make another bud. Then as momentum builds again, we find we have new life to work with.
Don’t despair the dying part.
It doesn’t mean you have squeezed out your last drop of brilliance. It only means it’s time to rest.
Who knows…that next new creation of yours may just be your best ever. Don’t stop. Keep going, but remember it’s a process.
Blessings!
