Do You See Forest or Trees?

IMG_0684I suppose it would depend on your current circumstances.

Right now I see trees. Trees to go around, trees to block my view, trees to distract me.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I find myself in a forest of my choosing, but I’m not sure I know my way around as well as I thought I did. Sometimes when I walk a distance and then turn around, I’m not sure how to get where I need to go. It was easier when I was looking at the big picture – the forest. Now the trees seem to be obstacles instead of part of the beauty of the larger scene.

It’s a challenge to switch my point of view, and I’m not sure I should right now. This could be the very thing I needed – to stop and reset my guidance, letting some of my old systems fall away.

As a writer, I’m feeling the effects of an ever changing world of publishing. There are more options for writers who want to publish independently, but there seems to be more obstacles for those who still want that publishing contract.

Navigating the forest of choices takes patience, persistence and passion.

This is true with all aspects of life, but for me, the book world is my world at the moment. As the world of choices changes for all of us, no matter what we are doing, we must not get distracted by every little tree.

Yet, we must also not have stepped back so far that all we see is the whole forest.

We miss too much either way.

What is your vision tendency? Too close, or not close enough?

Keep reaching…

Jan
